THE CANDIDATE, PRESIDENT BELLO BOUBA MAÏGARI, LEADS THE REFORM OF A TRILINGUAL EDUCATION SYSTEM (FRENCH-ENGLISH-GERMAN), A MAJOR ASSET FOR YOUTH EMPLOYMENT.
The reform of Cameroon’s educational system is a fundamental pillar of all our transformations, because our greatest wealth is our human capital.
This reform aims to build a new school system that guarantees equal opportunities, promotes trilingualism, fosters national unity, and perfectly meets the current and future needs of the national and international labor markets.
Its main objectives are:
1. *Accessibility and Equity*: ensuring universal access to high-quality education for all.
2. *Trilingualism and National Unity*: strengthening trilingualism (French-English-German) and promoting a strong Cameroonian identity.
3. *Economic Relevance*: aligning training with labor market needs, with an emphasis on technical, professional, and digital fields.
4. *Adaptation to New Technologies*: fully integrating computer science, information technologies, and artificial intelligence from an early age.
5. *Citizenship and Development*: training responsible citizens aware of their role in social and economic progress.
To implement this, we will act on:
- Renovating curricula with a complete overhaul of general, technical, and professional education, focused on 21st-century skills.
- Modernizing school infrastructure: modern schools equipped with laboratories, video libraries, and high-speed internet.
- Professional development of teachers trained in new pedagogies and technology integration.
- Implementing standardized evaluations assessing academic knowledge, behavior, attendance, and creativity — inspired by the German “Kopfnoten” system.
- Strong policies to value teachers so they feel fully engaged and motivated.
We intend to draw broad inspiration from:
- The *German system*, emphasizing the holistic development of the individual (“Bildung”), decentralized educational responsibility at the regional level, and strong links with businesses to facilitate professional integration.
- The *English system*, especially by maintaining and valuing the Anglophone education inherited from the Mandate period, while adapting it to current realities.
- The *French system*, known for its academic rigor and elevation of fundamental knowledge.
Our ambition is to build a Cameroonian education system that rivals the best foreign models. One capable of supporting the country’s digital transformation, stimulating research and innovation, and training tomorrow’s leaders.
This is a strategic lever for sustainable development so that every Cameroonian child has the keys to a bright future, and so that Cameroon becomes a model of educational excellence in Africa.
