Our educational system is on the brink of collapse, the victim of long neglect compounded by a deep economic crisis. The symbolic and moral value of teachers has eroded, just as their living conditions remain insufficiently recognized and protected. This is not just an observation but a heartfelt cry from men and women who, like our doctors, face a double battle: transmitting knowledge and surviving in a context where each day is a struggle.
Let us be clear: our teachers are not abandoning their vocation out of whim or refusal to work. They are fleeing a dead end made unbearable by salary indignity, rising insecurity, and an overwhelming cost of living. Imagine having to teach and shape the future of a nation while struggling just to make ends meet. Their mass departure is a silent complaint: a vote with their feet, a refusal to endorse a state that no longer guarantees them protection or recognition. The RDPC has become an empty shell, as its leaders have opted for manipulation, embezzlement, waste, abuse, lack of human respect, and corruption.
But this situation cannot be separated from the monetary reality weighing heavily on our efforts: the CFA franc's parity has steadily deteriorated for over seventy years. From 1 CFA franc equal to 1.70 French francs, we have moved to an absurd fixed rate of 1 euro equaling 655.957 CFA francs, a frozen parity that ignores the economic realities of our countries. This monetary anchor, far from stabilizing, blocks any possibility of salary rebalancing and makes a decent and fair remuneration for our teachers impossible.
We propose a bold and necessary reform that not only restores the dignity of teachers in words but tackles the deep causes of social distress: balanced salary revaluation, guaranteed security, real recognition, and finally a questioning of the unjust monetary framework that stifles all prospects of progress.
President Bello Bouba MAÏGARI carries this clear vision: a renovated educational system where teachers regain their pride and their central role in building our future. For a nation that neglects its teachers is sawing the branch on which its future rests.
